Dear Customer, Welcome to the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) web site. The CTA is the second largest transportation system in the United States and provides bus and rail service to the city of Chicago and 40 surrounding suburbs. CTA trains and buses provide 1.6 million rides on an average weekday over eight rail lines and 154 bus routes. This web site serves as a resource for all CTA information. You may use it to plan your travel, see service updates, get information on fares or learn about contract or job opportunities. We are committed to investing in areas that will provide direct benefits to our customers. We have listened to your concerns and have re-focused our efforts on tackling the problems that you have identified as the most frustrating - slow zones, bus bunching and service delays. Last summer we embarked on an aggressive plan to eliminate eight miles of slow zones on branches of our two busiest rail lines - the Red Line and the Blue Line. That work is on time and on budget and we expect to complete it by the end of this year. For bus service, we are testing methods to reduce bunching and provide consistent intervals between buses. We have targeted five routes and are trying different approaches on each route such as monitoring the time the bus leaves the terminal, allowing a follower to pass the bus in front of it, and adjusting schedules. To reduce delays on trains and buses, we are carefully tracking maintenance and repairs to avoid the recurring problems that can disrupt service. For example, by upgrading and replacing sensitive edges on rail car doors, we substantially reduced the number of delays caused by doors that will not shut properly. Your input is very important to us. If you have ideas on how we can provide better service or operate more efficiently, please email us at feedback@transitchicago.com. We will work with you to provide service that is on time, clean, safe, courteous and efficient for everyone who travels on the CTA system. Sincerely,
Carole Brown
