Bus and Rail Operations
The icon of CTA's business. Entry-level opportunities in this area include Bus Operator and Combined Rail Operator (Operates the train, works at track level "flagging" trains and acts as a customer assistant in rail stations). These positions involve direct contact with the public and require strong customer service skills.

Training and Development
The CTA develops and conducts all employee training "in-house". Program developers and instructors are responsible for entry-level programs as well as management development.

Human Resource Management
The Human Resource area is responsible for recruiting and for staffing all positions within CTA and for ensuring that employees are served well by the organization. Areas under the Human Resource umbrella include Selection & Placement, Benefit Services, Employee Assistance, and Labor Relations.

Customer Service
Providing good customer service is the key to the survival of a public transit service provider. All positions at CTA involve a strong customer service focus, however, we have a department dedicated to providing customer service. Customer Service Representatives who operate our customer service hotline and Community Representatives who serve the neighborhoods are just two examples of customer service opportunities at CTA.

Legal Services
The CTA General Counsel's office is responsible for representing CTA in all legal matters. Research, litigation, class action suits, employment law, etc.. The large legal department has opportunities for attorneys of all experience levels. Paralegals, Legal Secretaries, and Law clerks are other career opportunities available in this critical area.

Planning
The Planning Division is directly responsible for scheduling of CTA bus and rail service, the development of new services, and improvements to CTA's physical environment. Many opportunities exist for people with a planning background, but engineers, analysts, economists, and data management professionals are also needed.

Engineering
The CTA offers an array of careers within a variety of engineering disciplines. Architects to Structural Engineers from entry level to project management, the CTA employs some of the best people in their disciplines to move us in to the next millennium.

In addition to the regular workforce the CTA employs individuals for short and long term special projects in a variety of disciplines. This would also include summer employment for college interns.

Accounting/Finance
The Finance Division of the CTA consists of four areas: Accounting Operations, Treasury, Comptroller, and Capital Investment. As a whole, the division is responsible for the establishment, control and monitoring of the CTA's cash flow, operating budget, accounting, and financial reporting. Opportunities exist for Accountants, Financial Analysts and Budget Analyst at all levels of experience.

Property Maintenance
Property Maintenance employees are responsible for the appearance, maintenance and cleanliness of all CTA property. Facilities janitors and laborers are just a few of the positions that help present a positive image to the riding public.

Bus and Rail Car Maintenance
The CTA's fleet of 1,800 buses and 1,100 rail cars are the primary way we deliver our service to our 1.5 million riders per day. To keep this equipment in good working order the CTA has a first-class maintenance department. The bus and rail car repairers maintain, troubleshoot and repair the equipment. Our bus and rail car servicers are responsible for the appearance and cleanliness of our fleet.

Purchasing/Warehousing
The Purchasing section is responsible for the buying of all goods and services needed to keep the CTA running. The Warehousing department receives and inventories all physical property once it has been delivered. Buyers, expediters, inventory coordinators and warehouse workers are just a few of the opportunities available in this area.

Administrative Support/Clerical
The CTA has many opportunities for administrative assistants, executive secretaries, utility clerks, and data entry operators. From Accounting to Service Delivery, these posts are critical to the operation of the areas they are a part of and help the CTA achieve its goals.

Information Technology
The M.I.S. department provides the entire CTA with high quality information processing services. This encompasses the development, maintenance and operation of numerous application systems, using several mainframe computers, as well as an extensive array of personal computers. This area also provides consulting support and implements and monitors all requests for computer equipment., software and services necessary for information system operations. Programmers, analysts and micro-computer specialists are just a few of the positions in this state of the art department.

Marketing/Communications
Whether it is writing a press release or developing a brochure to describe an important new way CTA is doing business, Communications professionals are an important part of our business. Advertising and Promotions, Media Relations, Graphic Design and Reprographics make up this division that is responsible for our public information.
